Competitive Racing

Racing is conducted from August to April in five classes of sailing dinghies: Sabots, F11''s, Mirrors, Lasers (Full Rig, Radial & 4.7) and NS14s. The racing is highly competitive in all classes with many sailors from other clubs attracted to HHSC to hone their skills.

Mirror State Championships

As I sit here and watch the rain come down, I realise just how lucky we all are. What a fantastic weekend it was at the Balmoral Sailing Club!

Of the 23 boat strong fleet, we had 8 boats from HHSC. Well done to all for making the big effort!

Please find attached the results. In addition to providing the results, I would like to point out a few achievements from the regatta;

  • 5 of our 8 boats made it into the top 10
  • There is 1 point separating 2nd, 3rd and 4th place
  •  (congratulations Rob and San Jin Goodridch sailing “Phil Daniels” and Tara Foster and Ben Field in “Jazze”)
  • And 3 points separating 2nd – 6th place
  • (congratulations Greg Field Sam Bavis/Philippe Alais sailing “Celia May” and Stephen Foster and Laeticia Mooney in “Bad Wolf”)

Needless to say that made for some very close and exciting racing where minor errors made a big difference.

This year there was the classic division (wooden boats with gaff rigs)

  • Of the 23 strong fleet 13 were in the classic division
  • Congratulations to Philippa and Ralph Levin sailing “Dragonarias” coming 3rd in that division is fantastic!
  • Well done to Geoff Winestock and Louise Newey who finished 7th in that division an had to change boats after the first day (accidents do happen!!)

All in all it was a brilliant regatta with everyone having lots of fun, the steady winds and clear skies did help.
