Optimist Sailing at HHSC
The Optimist is the dinghy the world learns to sail in. You will find young sailors racing them in clubs all around the globe and they are the perfect next step after completing our Learn2Sail program.
At HHSC, we run a clear pathway that takes sailors from their very first solo tacks, through to confident racing at national and international level, all while keeping the focus on fun, friendships, and family.
In recent years, HHSC has risen to the very top of the Australian Optimist scene. We now have one of the largest Opti fleets in the country and the highest number of sailors selected for the Australian National Team. Our sailors regularly compete at the World, European, and Asian Championships, and consistently rank among the best at national level.
Our Optimist program runs across three main squads:
- Green Fleet – for beginners and Learn2Sail graduates
- Intermediate Fleet – building skills and confidence
- Open Fleet – for experienced sailors training and competing at a high level
