Marina Expansion Fighting Fund

Published Mon 07 Jul 2025

The Hunters Hill Sailing Club is currently facing a very real threat from a proposed marina extension which will make large areas of the waterway on which our club, and many other clubs, use for sailing, and particularly junior and youth sailing, unsafe for sailing.

Over the past two years, the marina extension has been rejected by the local Council, rejected at the Planning Panel. However, now the marina owner has commenced proceedings in the Land & Environment Court seeking, amongst other orders, 20,000m2 of Sydney harbour waterways to be removed from public use, for private gain.

Over the past two years the community campaign, which has been linked to advocacy groups live Save Our Shore and other sailing clubs in the area, have been run on the smell of an oily rag, using the goodwill and skills of those effected, including members of many of the impacted sailing clubs and many local residents, on a pro bono basis.

For the hearing, these groups including the club have been advised to engage professional experts including briefing a barrister and solicitor formally and retain the services of a marine safety and navigation expert.

The costs estimated is in the order of $60,000, which as you would appreciate is beyond the cash reserves of the coalition of the parties opposing this expansion.

If you would like to support this initiative to oppose this marina expansion, I would encourage you to donate to this fighting fund.

The funds raised through your donation would go directly to those experts working for this cause.

We hope you can donate generously, and any amount would greatly help.
