Even with the chill in the air, Hunters Hill Sailing Club is buzzing with energy. From the launch of our new race team shirts to a strong community stand on local development, it's clear our members are staying active both on and off the water. With exciting regatta results, frosty morning racing, and upcoming camps and programs, there’s something for everyone - whether you’re braving the harbour breezes or cheering from ashore. Read on to catch up on all the latest!
From the President
It's fantastic to see our club so active, even in winter! The cooler months often bring clearer waters and consistent breezes, offering a great chance to sharpen skills and enjoy the harbour's beauty.
Our new race team shirts have arrived and are ready for collection! See Ben or your class secretary to pick yours up. A huge thanks again to the Rotary Club of Hunters Hill for sponsoring these shirts—supporting local kids staying active is invaluable! And thanks to Jay Ryves for the design. We even have a few adult sizes, so don't miss out!
Urgent action: Woolwich Marina development
For those who have submitted an objection to the proposed Woolwich Marina development—thank you. Your voice is crucial.
If you haven't yet, it's critical you do so before 27 June. We need our collective voice heard on this issue. The Save Our Shores (SOS) group has an easy guide to help you make a submission at https://www.sossaveourshores.com.au/.
From the Commodore
The Frostbite winter series kicked off Sunday 15 June with 28 participants on a cold but sunny morning with a light westerly breeze. The fleet provided a photogenic backdrop to the community protest against the Woolwich Marina development.

Community takes a stand 📸 Andrea Phillips
There was enough breeze for the front of the fleet to make it around the course. Thanks to the support crews for retrieving those who were becalmed!
It was fantastic to have five Zests racing—a record during my time as race officer. I look forward to seeing you at the remaining races—hopefully joined by some Quest sailors from our Teens and Tweens Learn to Race program! Race three happens Sunday 20 July.
Recent regatta highlights
Congratulations to the optimist fleet who travelled in good numbers to Woollahra Sailing Club on Sunday 22 July for round one of the interclub winter series. They’re defending the club’s series win last year and achieved impressive results in all fleets.

Windsurfing
There are big plans underway to build the windsurfing fleet for the coming race season. If you are a previous windsurfer, or keen to give it a try, then get ready to dust off your wetsuits as soon as the weather warms up.

Windsurfing: watch this space! 📸 Ben Howell
We have multiple classes that form part of the Olympic pathway and the iQFoil class fits perfectly amongst this program. Australian Sailing is keen to build wind surfing numbers and is willing to support our efforts to build the class. We already have several Bic Techno 293 boards available for members to learn how to windsurf and have plans underway to transition members into iQFoiling.
The goal is to have windsurfing training and racing at a time that does not clash with other classes—to allow Opti, ILCA, 29er and our Teens and Tweens an opportunity to participate in the windsurfing program as well. Stay tuned for further details!
