In 1998 the NSW Government, in an effort to increase the safety of our children passed the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act. The act means that organizations providing activities for children have to be sure that the volunteers who assist those children are not prohibited from doing so.
Some of you will already have had to fill in 'Prohibited Person's Declarations' to be reading mothers, go on excursions, work in canteen, coach or manage sporting teams for groups such as schools, sporting clubs, Guides and Scouts. Some of you may also have had to fill in the ‘Working with Children Check' consent forms. Sailing Clubs also have to comply with the legislation and it is an offence not to do so. One of the great features of Hunters Hill Sailing Club is that everyone helps out, and in particular everyone helps the children, on and off the water.
As a result, all members of the club who are 18 years of age or over, (or where club members are under 18, their parents), must complete a Prohibited Person's Declaration for Hunters Hill Sailing Club. This is a condition of application for membership and all renewing members must have a completed declaration on file at the Club.
These declarations are stored securely and are available for audit by the Department of Sport and Recreation and/or the Commission for Children and Young Persons as requested. At Hunters Hill Sailing Club we take our role in supporting children and young people seriously, and are happy to comply with the legislation. The full details of the policy are on display in the Club House.
